Allen-Bradley RSLogix software and ladder-diagram programming

Raymond F. Gardner · 2020

Allen-Bradley is the brand of PLC equipment manufactured by Rockwell Automation, where RSLinx, Boot-DHCP Tool, and RSLogix are three computer applications for establishing communications, writing programs, and transferring program information into the PLC. This chapter provides an overview for establishing communications between a laptop programming computer and the PLC and the procedure for downloading programs. Terminology is defined and some of the more common programming instructions are described. The basics of the RSLogix programming software are covered, including some of the fundamental digital I/O instructions. The ladder-diagram program structure is shown, along with a simple example detailing the PLC-program scan, describing how data are passed from the input sensor into the PLC memory, and ultimately to the final output device. Pseudocode, flow charts, and the importance of program documentation are included as tools to aid in program design and troubleshooting.
