Mladen Vratonjić · 2006

Communication needs of public safety organizations, can not be fulfilled any more by usage of conventional analogue radio systems, taking into account increasing security and safety challenges of modern world. As a result of user needs and Regulations brought by Schengen Telecom, ETSI (European Telecommunications Standard Institute) has created the first, truly open standard for European PMR (Professional Mobile Radio) users named TETRA. The telecommunications industry worldwide has recognized opportunities and prospective of the TETRA standard and offered powerful and sophisticated telecommunication system to the market. Public safety organizations have accepted TETRA as a high quality solution of their communication needs. The quality of the standard, its openness, number of industry players involved and the market success guarantee that standard is going to be further developed. This means that the work of public safety organizations will become more efficient and effective thus providing more secure and safe environment for citizens worldwide.
