Hackerville: An interactive security education tool

Joshua Hasstedt · 2020

IBM estimated in 2014 that 95% of security breaches are a result of human error. Furthermore, a Verizon 2019 report found 94% of all malware is delivered via email. It appears the weakest link in any security network, the link to enable more/deeper attacks, is the humans. The goal of the Hackerville security education environment is to provide everybody with the fundamentals of networking and security. It is the intention that after this education people will exercise the necessary amount of care to bring those above statistics down. To prevent them from clicking on so many bad links, phishing emails, and visiting bad websites through education. My creative component is Lab 1 of the Hackerville environment covering "How the Internet Works." It is the goal of this lab to give them the information necessary to understand all future labs and to understand the function of networking hardware familiar to them.
