Security Officer Accountability

Andrew A. Tufano · Productivity Press eBooks · 2020

Accountability plays an important role in creating a successful workplace violence prevention plan that involves occasionally using force to protect people. Responsible supervisory controls are necessary to maintain a team of professional security officers who are authorized to use protective force to protect employees, consumers, visitors, and others. To hold security officers accountable for their protective-action decisions, other security officers may need to intervene if an officer becomes emotionally unstable and loses self-control. One of the most challenging components of creating a fair and reliable protective force review process is determining an appropriate standard against which to measure its use. Two standards are generally used to evaluate protective action decision-making: hindsight and situational metrics. Security officer accountability plays an important role in the success of an organization&s;s workplace violence prevention program. Systems of accountability need to include effective policies, training, supervisory controls, and a fair after-action review and reporting process.
