Virtual Uniform Linear Iterative Adaptive Approach for Robust Adaptive Beamforming

In this paper, we propose a virtual uniform linear iterative adaptive approach (VUL-IAA) method to design robust adaptive beamformer using coprime array. We enlarge the array aperture of coprime physical array by generating a longer virtual coarray. However, the data vector in the non-uniform virtual coarray appears as one snapshot. We propose the VUL-IAA method to directly process the one-snapshot data in the longest virtual uniform linear array (VULA). By doing this, the operations of recovering the rank of the VULA covariance matrix and constructing its full-rank version are totally avoided. Moreover, the VUL-IAA method can estimate precise powers for incident signals, which can be used to reconstruct the interference covariance matrix and determine the steering vector of signal-of-interest. We compute the weight vector of the proposed beamformer based on the coprime physical array. Simulation results show that the proposed beamformer can mitigate typical mismatches.
