Robotics as a Storytelling/Experience Medium (Raasem)
Ebrahim Poustinchi · 2020
RAASEM as part of an ongoing research at the Robotically Augmented Design Lab, revisits the potential of robotic technology in the field of design, merely as a fabrication/ “production” tool, but as an active medium for the design process as well as experiencing the outcome of the design. RAASEM studies the potential of both an industrial robotic arm, and cross reality platforms – specifically augmented reality, as a possible medium for storytelling, environmental ambiance, and user experience. The story is based on a para-fictional scenario speculating on a future child’s room where the robot arm plays the role of the child, illustrating a futuristic ambiance, to begin the story. A story that is happening in two different worlds: the world of the physical robot and the world of the digital animation, overlaid through AR where the interaction of these two narrates the story.
