Finding Lensed Quasars with Time Variability in Imaging Surveys
Chun-Yi Chao · 2020
We develop a variability-based lens search algorithm. The test with mock lensed quasars shows that the variability-based lens search algorithm achieves a true-positive rate of 90.1% and a false-positive rate of 2.3%. The application to the HSC transient survey recovers the only known quadruply lensed quasar in the field and discovers seven new lensed candidates. Therefore, we expect that the variability-based lens search algorithm skillfully captures thousands of new lensed quasars in the future.
