Series and Approximations

In most applications of science, as well as in everyday life, we seldom need precision better than one or two significant figures. (One exception is in reconciling bank statements.) Usually we can use approximations to functions if it is awkward to handle the function itself. In this section we present some examples of how simple functions can be used as approximations to complex ones.
