Cyber-physical systems (CPS) is a modeling method that integrates embedded computing technologies into the physical world providing interconnections and interdependencies between the physical and cyber components. In order to model such system a class of formalism is need to describe the structure and behavior of cyber and physical components. This work provides an overview on how the Petri nets formalism can be used for modeling and analyzes hydropower control modeled as CPS system. It is presented an implementation of the start and stop sequence control of an electric power generating unit to exemplify the CPS methodology, the advantage and benefits of using Petri net as a model formalism.
