There are more than a dozen real-time operating systems, but Linux highlights itself being free and having networking, graphics and user interface features. In this paper the authors present the implementation of real-time open source drivers on EVL, PREEMPT_RT and Xenomai real-time Linux extensions for the Texas Instruments OMAP4 multi-channel SPI peripheral. Also, an FPGA based interrupt and SPI latency evaluation system is provided, system which tests the real-time behavior of the implemented drivers. In the tests were made one million test samples for each SPI real-time driver, which validate the real-time implementations.
