Methodical Survey on IDS with Feature Selection

Intrusion Detection System (IDS) is a functional solution to network security problem because of its efficiency of incorporating the goodness of other techniques like Data Mining (DM) and feature selection technique. In this survey, 58 articles from various reputed and University Grants Commission (UGC) recognized journals have been investigated on the issues and challenges over IDS. Though IDS experiences continuous enrichments, it is also under pressure of some issues. Major issues and challenges of IDS have been discussed and analysis has been made on data sets broadly used in constructing a model for overcoming the issues and challenges of IDS. Various feature selection methods and their impacts to overcome the limitations of IDS are surveyed by reasoning out of using Support Vector Machine (SVM) for classification. This paper will instigate new research interest in IDS security.
