SharePoint Server 2019 is generally available, and it is the latest on-premises version of SharePoint. SharePoint Server 2019 is more focused on team collaboration, consistent user experience across various devices, and bringing in cloud features to the on-premises scenario. SharePoint Server 2019 is built on the same core platform as SharePoint Server 2016; however, it offers a new, modern experience to users. It also unlocks access to some features previously available only for cloud customers. This blurs the line between on-premises and cloud experiences, which facilitate a smoother transition to the cloud. SharePoint Server 2019 is a middle ground for customers looking for an on-premises solution that captures many of the benefits of SharePoint Online while giving customers the control and compliance of staying on-premises.
