The study deals with a new method of rapid interference-free tool path generation for 5-axis control machining using a ball end mill. It is necessary to obtain the adequate tool postures to avoid the interference between the tool and the workpiece during machining. Thus, the study proposes a new method, which at first forms an interference-free space against the surface to be machined. Then, all cutting points and postures are determined on the basis of dividing this space. From the machined result of an impeller, it is confirmed that the method is available to generate interference-free NC data of complicated workpiece shapes in a very short time.
