RIT: Remaining Inter-Contact Time based Routing for Intermittent Connected Networks
M. Syed Rabiya, R. Ramalakshmi · 2019
In an Intermittent Connected Network, node's mobility causes intermittent connectivity between nodes resulting in partitioned networks or clusters of the network, hence complete path will not always exist. Low resource utilization technique causes long latency whereas high routing performance technique produces a huge number of redundancies leading to quick depletion of resources. It is obviously that merging replication control mechanism with replication-based technique will attain great routing performance with low overhead. Inspired by this observation, a novel technique called Remaining Inter Contact time-based Routing (RIT) is proposed. The proposed work enhances the replication-based technique considering remaining inter-contact time between two nodes as routing utility. As a result, RIT selects relays in an increasing value of delivery predictability. Thus, the proposed work achieves the 25% improvement in packet delivery rate than the state-of-the-art protocols for increasing network size. In addition, RIT takes the least delay with reduced overhead. We evaluated RIT inan Opportunistic Network Environment (ONE) simulator specially designed for DTN type networks, which shows that RIT avoids unnecessary replication and performs well in a wide range of intermittently connected networks.
