Network Sense: Methods for Visualizing a Discipline
Derek Mueller · The WAC Clearinghouse; University Press of Colorado eBooks · 2017
As all books build up-such a wondrous alignment of setups!-this book has taken shape following an elaborate tangle of interactions; copious questions and suggestions; and a well of generative, thoughtful conversations. For their gestures of kindness, support, and encouragement, I am indebted to many people. The kernel of this book began in the dissertation, which was generously shaped during my doctoral studies in Syracuse University's Composition and Cultural Rhetoric program by Collin Brooke, Louise Wetherbee Phelps, Rebecca Moore Howard, Alex Reid, and Anne Wysocki.Chapter Four, a version of which was published in College Composition and Communication's research methodologies special issue in 2012, found refined shape through revisions guided by editor Kathleen Blake Yancey and two anonymous reviewers.Shortly after that article appeared, I was fortunate to continue conversations as a guest presenter and respond to many thoughtful questions posed by students in classes taught by Laurie Gries at the University of Florida, Jeff Pruchnic at Wayne State University, and Seán McCarthy at James Madison University. For their attentiveness and genuine curiosity, this book is also a credit to engaged conference-goers as well as the intellectual communities that have coalesced around several conferences, including the Western States Rhetoric and Literacy Conference, the Conference on College Composition and Communication, Writing Research Across Borders, HASTAC, Computers & Writing, and WIDE-EMU.Colleagues and graduate students in written communication at Eastern Michigan University also gave much to this book's development with their expressions of curiosity and interest, offerings of intellectual acuity, and sustaining friendship. To faculty colleagues,
