Explicit Finite Analytic Method

This chapter presents the derivation of an explicit finite analytic method for the two-dimensional transport equation for convection dominated flows. It is a numerical method based on an analytic solution using characteristics. The chapter begins by describing how the two-dimensional transport equation is reduced to a linear equation when the flow is dominated by convection. It shows how the homogeneous version of this linear equation is solved analytically, and the how the concept of characteristics is used to devise a numerical method. The explicit method reduces some of the complication. It is a numerical method based on an analytic solution using characteristics.
