The Camera’s View

Martha Mollison · 2020

The camera is able to move fluidly through the location and even the action, changing its point of view, responding quickly to the unexpected, and even interacting with the subjects. A steady handheld camera can add production value to reader program and save reader time in the edit suite. A handheld moving camera allows reader to capture action that might otherwise have taken number of camera set-ups. The original steadicam was a harness contraption that held the camera on a jointed arm, isolated from movements of camera operator. The image stabiliser in our camera is designed to reduce jiggly camera work by adjusting away our own personal shakiness. If camera doesn’t have to move around or through the action space, then the best idea is to stabilise it firmly in one spot. Optical stabilisers are better than digital stabilisers so if the reader have a choice when purchasing, hiring or borrowing a camera, go for one with an optical stabiliser.
