A Blockchain-based Approach to the Secure Sharing of Healthcare Data

Electronic health record (EHR) sharing enables to improve the qualityand reduce the cost of healthcare, but it is still challenging because oftechnique issues even though patients and healthcare organizations arewilling to share. These technical barriers include condentiality, privacy,interoperability, integrity and so on. In this paper, we propose a blockchainand MedRec-based approach by implementing signcryption and attributebasedauthentication to enable the secure sharing of healthcare data. Byimplementing this approach: 1) all patient's fragmented EHR pieces canbe viewed as a whole record and stored secure against tampering; 2) theauthenticity of patients' EHRs can be veried; 3) exible and ne-grainedaccess control can be provided and 4) maintaining a clear audit trail ispossible.
