Soft Issues that Limit Sharing of Tacit Knowledge within Software Development Project Teams

The sharing of tacit knowledge is a challenge within software development teams (SDPs) and this resulted in high failure of SDPs. The majority of the studies that were conducted focused on the barriers on knowledge in general not taking into consideration the soft issues that limits the sharing of tacit knowledge. Sharing of tacit knowledge rely on the human element especially the custodian of tacit knowledge. The main aim of this study is to identify soft issues that limits the sharing of tacit knowledge within SDP teams. Researchers conducted a grounded theory study. Researchers interviewed a total of 28 participants to collect qualitative data to achieve the main objective of the study. The researcher conducted grounded theory analysis to achieve the objective of the study. The results of the study indicate lack of verbal communication, poor relationships, personality and lack of critical thinking as soft issues that limit the sharing of tacit knowledge within SDP teams.
