Derivative sensors (D dot and B dot) are used for measurement of transient electric and magnetic fields mainly from Electromagnetic pulse (EMP) and lightning events. These sensors are characterized by using standard field generation method like monocone antenna and TEM cell methods. This paper discusses the methodology for characterizing the sensors from its frequency domain transfer function, which in turn can be used for measuring the transient signals.
