In this paper, we discuss the effectiveness of a particular selection and sequencing of two emerging language technologies, namely information extraction (IE) followed by machine translation (MT), and report and evaluate our experiment results. The experiments have shown that different template slot types affect the quality of MT results, and that MT quality of some slot values is actually helped by IE while others, though less frequent, suffer from a lack of contextual information as the result of IE. 1
