DoubleTrApp: A Weak Vertex Cover based DDoS Detection and Mitigation scheme using SDN approach

Priyanka Bardalai, Nabajyoti Medhi, Swarnendu Kumar Chakraborty · 2019

Distributed Denial of Service Attack causes the centralized controller of a Software-Defined Network to be unreachable, bringing the entire network to a halt. In this paper, we propose a model named DoubleTrApp, which uses sFlow to classify the DDoS attack and uses OpenFlow to mitigate it on a collecting set based on the Vertex Cover Problem. This paper shows how DDoS attacks can deplete controller resources and thus DoubleTrApp provides a solution to detect a DDoS attack using some bounds on two per-flow based traffic parameters. Performance results shows that the proposed model demonstrates successful attack detection and mitigation and outperforms an OpenFlow based load-balancing mechanism.
