Analysis of Fingerprint Counterfeiting and Liveness Detection Algorithms

Nowadays, fingerprint scanner are employed nearly everywhere involving identity authentication. These are the most reliable biometric trait of individual. With the increase in use of identity authenticating systems at public and private places, their risk of being compromised has also gone high. Hackers have also discovered various ways to replicate the fingerprint to achieve identity theft which leads to economic losses as well as privacy breach. Researchers in recent years developed various techniques to secure the fingerprint based identity authentication systems. Both the vulnerabilities and the recent technological breakthroughs have been discussed in this paper.
