The Internet of Things (IoT) is becoming an increasingly attractive target for cybercriminals. We discuss how the combination of Software Defined Networking and cyber-deception techniques can potentially mitigate the security issues. Subsequently, we introduce a trustworthy, cooperative, and scalable architecture to enable cyber-security deception and IoT security among multiple networks. The architecture is powered by Software Defined Networks (SDN) technologies, where the controller application can take input about malicious activities from its honeypots and translate its requirements to the network-level flow rules to stop attacks quickly. The architecture not only benefits the victims under attacks, but any other potential targets in the networks. The experimental results show that the overall hardware implementation is effective to secure IoT applications. Finally, we discussed the challenges and potential solutions to enable cyber-security deceptions in an SDN-based Mobile Ad Hoc Network (or MANET) environment.
