Software Circulation using Sandboxed File Space-Previous Experience and New Approach

Kazuhiko Kato, Yoshihiro Oyama, Katsunori Kanda, Katsuya Matsubara · 2002

This paper reviews our previous design work on the Planet mobile object system and describes our experiences in utilizing the system. We then discuss our new system, SoftwarePot, the design of which is based on our previous experience. Our new approach is to design a tool for general software circulation, and to support users to utilize it as a mobilization tool when they require a form of mobile object/agent computing. The new approach focuses on the mobility of file spaces, and the so-called "sandboxing" concept found in many mobile code or object systems is extended to include file spaces.
