GASP: an open source gaming service middleware dedicated to multiplayer games for J2ME based mobile phones

GASP is an open source platform that conforms theOpen Mobile Alliance (OMA) v 1.0 specifications. Itis able to handle basic services for building andhandling interactions between players such as sessionmanagement, communications... GASP isimplemented in Java. It offers a server and a clientpart. It is defined for MIDP and DOJA J2ME profiles.GASP is demonstrated through Kouiz, a multiplayergame for mobiles presented in the second part of thispaper. During solo phases of the game, the playertries to breed animals called kouizs. The aim is toimprove their skills. With improved skills, kouizshave better chances to win against challengers in themultiplayer arena. In this mode kouizs can fight. Thispaper ends by discussing our current results and whatwe plan to do next with the gaming service platformGASP.
