Designing Technology-Enhanced Mathematics Lessons with SAMR Model

Lee Yong Tay, Theresa Heng, Judy Kay Joo NG, Sze Yee Lye · WORLD SCIENTIFIC eBooks · 2020

In this chapter, the authors attempt to discuss and propose the use of the Substitution-Augmentation, Modification-Redefinition (SAMR) Model to facilitate the design of technology-enhanced mathematics lessons to better engage students. Technology could be harnessed as informative, situative, constructive and communicative tools to facilitate children to learn a concept with active participation and understanding. Mathematics teachers can use the SAMR model to design lessons that redefines the teaching and learning of mathematics. Specifically, this chapter discusses how technology could be harnessed to design lessons that engage students in the learning of certain topics in the local primary mathematics classroom; that is, to leverage technology to promote mathematical reasoning and communication in the mathematics classroom.
