A network of heterogeneous collection of devices, which provide device to device, device to machine and device to human communication, when connected makes an Internet of Things (IoT). These devices can refer to any physical entity, embedded with sensors, RFID tags or microcontroller boards. They have the capability to sense its physical environment. The data collected by these devices is either sent to the local server or to the edge server for processing, which helps for analyzing the data. There are various security issues in an IoT device. The data collected by an IoT is vulnerable to different types of attacks. An attack can happen to the data in different states either at rest on an IoT device or while being sent to the local server or to the cloud. This paper discusses about the mechanisms to be taken to provide security to the data being send by an IoT device to the server. It also discusses about the security and performance mechanisms taken by different authors in IoT applications.
