Shapiro developed an algorithm to diagnose the error in PROLOG programs where output is missing. The original algorithm can handle only pure logic programs and it has some other disadvantages In this paper a new approach is presented. This solution based on the trace tree (kind of SLD tree) which is built up from the trace generated by the PROLOG interpreter. We also introduced a new types of existence questions. 1 1 Introduction Research on the topic debugging PROLOG programs started with the development of Shapiro's APD-System ([16]). The algorithmic program debugging method introduced by Shapiro can isolate an erroneous procedure if a program together with an input leading to an incorrect result is given. Shapiro's model was originally applied to PROLOG programs to diagnose the three types of errors: termination with incorrect output, termination with missing output and nontermination.
