Model based Dehazing Algorithms for Hazy Image Restoration – A Review

Deoyani Mujbaile, Dinesh Vitthalrao Rojatkar · 2020

The inclement weather is inescapable for any field vision system. Thus, certain mechanisms must be included to enable the proper functioning of these systems when snow, hail, rain, fog, and haze are present. Our work mainly concentrates on the effect of haze on image and its effective removal method. The reflected light from objects, before reaching the camera, is attenuated by haze. Haze also blends this reflected light with the atmospheric light. Hence, the quality of the image is deteriorated. Dehazing algorithms aim at enhancing the hazy image to restore its original features. Amongst all the proposed dehazing algorithms; our work focuses on certain popular algorithms. A detailed study on each of these algorithms is done in this paper. This study may act as a benchmark to use a particular algorithm as per one's requirement and available resources. Also, after analyzing each of the algorithms, we will be able to find advantages and disadvantages in each algorithm; thus, creating space for new research.
