Internet of Things (IoT) is a game changing technology which is going to improve the overall quality of our life. In this technology end devices called IoT nodes are used to connect, measure and control the different parameters of an environment in an automated manner. The IoT devices produce a large number of data that needs to be processed and on the basis of the results, decisions are made. Because of limited resources IoT devices utilize the services of the cloud servers for storage and processing of the data. Since cloud servers are very far, hence the system fails to provide support for real-time and time-critical applications. In order to reduce the round-trip transmission (RTT) Time of an IoT system, another service layer of Edge servers is added close to IoT devices. Utilizing the services of the edge servers helps in reducing both the network traffic to the cloud and RTT time of the system. This paper presents an analytical and simulations study of RTT time of edge based IoT architecture.
