Public and Private AI Platforms: Building Trust - An EU perspective

Public and private AI platforms have come under increased scrutiny in light of the legal and ethical issues they raise. To increase trust, the European Commission has set up a High-Level Expert Group on AI which is drafting Ethics Guidelines that aim to help AI practitioners in Europe and beyond to ensure their platforms are trustworthy. The question however remains which role we as a society would like such platforms to have, and what the respective role for private and public actors should be when it comes to ensuring and enforcing those platforms' trustworthiness.
