The Competitiveness among GDSs in Korea: Between BSP and ATR

The purpose of study aimed at apprehending the competitiveness among top 4 global distribution systems(GDS) and the difference of competitiveness according to the types of users (BSP: bank settlement plan and ATR: air ticket request). For this, the study applied niche theory which proposed 3 core concepts such as niche breadth, niche overlap and niche superiority, and analyzed the competitive relationships based on functional satisfaction of GDSs targeting customers of travel agency. Data were collected from the employees of domestic travel agency who are currently in charge of airline reservation and ticketing or experienced or understand all 4 GDS. Total 324 copies were utilized in analysis. The results of analysis are as follows. Based on user environment, there was difference in niche breadth between BSP agency and ATR agency, and differences in accordance with types in function excluding system function in niche overlap. As for the niche superiority, there was difference between BSP agency and ATR agency.
