Towards a Human-Centered Model in SIoT -Enhancing the Interaction Behaviour of Things with Personality Traits

The continuous advancement of technologies and computational power in recent years has created a hybrid network reality where people and things co-exist, exchanging information and accomplishing tasks. Accordingly, the convergence of the Human Social Networks and the Internet of Things is more visible than ever, with the main challenges being, firstly, how to incorporate the full potential of the former into the implementations of the latter; secondly, how to take advantage of more consistent patterns of human behaviors; and thirdly, how to fuse them into objects for enhancing their autonomous execution and effective interactions over distributed networks. In this paper, we propose a human-centered hierarchical model that maintains at its core human personality traits and drives the behavior and interactions of objects that travel autonomously in the open space. We developed a simulation framework that facilitated the evaluation and observation of how objects (fridges) communicate and establish friendships. The results revealed the successful adaption of human-centered behaviors in the objects' world driven by meaningful and long-term interactions over time to the benefit of the user.
