Cued speech is a form of visual communication system. Cued speech uses the hand to represent the sound of a spoken language. Cued Speech in Bahasa Malaysia (CSBM) is an adaptation of cued speech for use in the Malay language. For CSBM, there are eight hand shapes in four different hand placements around the head. A cued speech transliterate system will capture and understand the hand shape, movement and placement and then generate the sound of each syllable onto a computer or a mobile device This paper looks into the existing researches that have been done in this area and also the sensors and methods they used. Because of the limited number of researches for cued speech, related researches such as sign language translator systems are also reviewed. This will give some idea on what sensor and method that can be used for our transliterate system. This paper will also give a general overview on how to implement the cued speech transliterate system.
