Towards Performance Improvement of User Plane Traffic in Wireless System: Security Aspects

Security practices are one of the sources of power consumption and introduces latency. In this short paper, we present the identified overhead in terms of power consumption and latency, introduced by applying security at multiple layers in emerging wireless networks, particularly for the 5G user data communication. Novel security mechanism is proposed for 5G systems for power efficient and low latency user data communication. The proposed mechanism enables the battery charge to last around 5mins longer and reduces latency by 4%, for 10GB data transfer.
