The Construction Industry Institute, Independent Project Analysis, and other sources present to us a capital project model in two primary parts. Simplistically, these are the front-end planning part and the execution part. The Project Management Institute and ISO guides even skip the whole first phase—pre-authorization—which would include the Concept and Feasibility Stages. The image presents more or less the same information via two styles, and it is worth pausing to study it. The “holistic” view is on the left via the circle, and the “linear” process view is on the right. Many business professionals assume that the stage gate process is limited to the project management and engineering functions, and the process is structured to meet an engineering purpose. The conclusion of all of the above is CAMMP™ MP, which focuses on project leadership and product delivery. CAMMP™ MP is a more comprehensive methodological approach than a typical capital project or a large complex project delivery model.
