IoT Data Collectors

Chandrasekar Vuppalapati · 2019

This chapter presents Fog computing and provides technological imperatives that drives edge computing choices, and the high-performance algorithms that process the data in real-time. The Data generated by Internet of Things Sensors contain valuable information about the device, the environment, device health, diagnostics, state of firmware and state machine. The chapter explains Data Collectors for the Edge processing, Data Collector Algorithms, Data Circular Buffers, Audio Signal representation and Video Signal representation. Edge analytics provides rapid response to the source by collecting and aggregating the data obtained by sensors near to the source instead of transmitting it to the cloud or centralized datacenter. The advantage of analyzing the data closer to the source is that Edge Analytics not only provides a rapid response but also aids in the detection of device health markers, data anomalies and abnormalities in order to predict device operational and/or health prognostics and, thus, potentially improve the overall performance and life of the device.
