The problem of energy efficiency in Wireless Sensor Networks has become a very important axis of research. Hierarchical-based routing protocols have greatly contributed to the minimum energy consumption and thereby network lifetime extension. In this paper, we propose a Hybrid bio-inspired clustering based Routing Protocol using Cuckoo Search and Simulated Annealing Algorithms (HRP-CSSA). Our proposed protocol takes the advantages of SA which avoid to be trapped in local minima, as well as the effectiveness of CS algorithm in solving global optimisation. The performance of the proposed protocol is compared to LEACH-C and ECSBCP protocols. Experimental results show that HRP-CSSA has the best performances in terms of energy consumption, the stability period, the network lifespan, and the amount of data received at the Base Station.
