Abstract This paper provides an overview of current concepts and models, being communicated by the community of CCITT SG XVIII readers and participants which will significantly influence the teletraffic studies and models for the next generation. The concepts described here are offered as possible building blocks and a source of terminology for future quality of service and performance traffic studies in the ISDN era.
