In engineering the word system is used to identify an aggregate of assemblies and components working together to perform a specific function. This is akin to the definition of a bodily structure involving organs acting in unison to perform one of the main functions which need to be done for survival, for instance, the circulatory system. An open architecture has been given a variety of definitions, with many manufacturers claiming that their solution is “the only one valid in satisfying open architectural requirements. The Integrated Services Digital Network interface was created to facilitate telecommunications that integrate voice, static images, text, and data on common lines. This is an issue that a Consultative Committee for International Telephone and Telegraph committee has been discussing since 1979, and the agreement which has been reached only covers the local loop. This is the first significant failure of which to take notice.
