Data acquisition and processing techniques for a novel performance monitoring system based on KPIs

A dedicated platform aiming at the continuous collection of critical information from the ship’s inputs, the transmission of the data through a wireless network, centralization and homogenization of information in central computing, and analysis of measurements to support the decision-making mechanism of shipping companies is presented. The platform is enriched by a set of KPIs targeting different aspects of ship performance, offering a fast, yet reliable overview. A ranking methodology is also presented offering a triggering mechanism for a more detailed root-cause analysis for performance assessment.
