Practical Implementations And Technology Of Measurement Devices*

Peter Andreas Lewin · 2020

This chapter aims to discuss practical implementation and performance of devices designed to determine relevant acoustic output parameters and presently used in measurement practice. Prior to the discussion of the commercially available polivinylidene difluoride hydrophone technology, it may be useful to briefly summarize the basic requirements for hydrophones used for ultrasound measurements. A number of voltage sensitivity measurements are taken as the hydrophone is rotated about an axis parallel to the plane containing the central sensitive spot. The choice of particular configuration depends on the applications or given measurement task. The chapter describes devices which are based on the measurement of radiation force. Radiation force devices are attractive because they allow absolute measurement of ultrasonic power to be made. However, unlike hydrophones they are not suitable for temporal wave analysis and measurements of spatial beam distribution.
