In Russia, to evaluate speech intelligibility, the formant method is widely used, which involves calculating speech intelligibility using the probability of formants detection and the audibility of speech in the octave bands of the speech frequency range. However, when calculating speech intelligibility, it is supposed that the speech sounds in every of the octave bands are audible. But at low signal-to-noise ratios there may be cases when speech sounds are audible in some of the octave bands, but not in the others. In this research, based on experimental studies using the articulation tests method, the contribution of separate octave bands and all of their possible combinations to speech intelligibility is assessed.
