This paper described a method for constructing a control system of traffic signal of an intersection in the urban road networks. The implementation of this traffic signal could optimize the performance of the intersection, reduced travel delays, avoided the congestion, and prevented conflict of traffic flow. The traffic signal applied additional green signals, i.e., the four-seconds extra. The additional green signals were implemented at most four times. The method to improve the control system of the traffic signal used Petri Net (PN), which could present a mathematical concept of a control system in Discrete-Event System (DES). The model verification and its validation used invariants and simulations to represent marking on the places and to indicate a sequence of events in the actual state, respectively. In this paper presented the comparison of the travel delays while applied additional green signals once, twice, and three times after a barrier had elapsed. The control system was proportional to the number of constraints that be satisfied.
