International humanitarian and development aid and Big Data governance

International humanitarian and development aid are experiencing a wave of innovation spurred by Big Data and Artificial Intelligence, amongst other innovative technologies. This chapter provides an overview over the political dilemmas that emerge from trends towards digitalization and datafication. It outlines the current changes in these fields and discusses the political nature of data, including data vulnerability and (group-) privacy. The chapter proposes a mode of governance for data driven innovation in the sector, which is based on the application of principles of humanitarianism.
