In many applications, such as auralization and artificial reverberation, the need of modelling the acoustic response of rooms arises. Rooms are modelled as linear time invariant systems where the acoustic transmission characteristics between a specific source and receiver pair are described by the room impulse response (RIR). A recursive realisation of the short time Fourier transform is employed to decompose the RIR in the time-frequency domain, where the different frequency bins are approximated by parametric models at a reduced sampling rate. The Prony and the Steiglitz-MCBride method are tested for the evaluation of the coefficients of the pole-zero models, and the latter is found to be superior. Analysis and modelling of the RIR of a real room is presented as an application case.
