Introduction to Evidence-Based Offender Profiling

Bryanna Fox, David P. Farrington, Andreas Kapardis, Olivia C. Hambly · 2020

This chapter aims to introduce readers to the key concepts in the book, including the definition and applications of offender profiling, the need for an evidence-based offender profiling (based upon the lack of statistical and scientific methods in early offender profiling work), and the topics and research questions which will be addressed throughout the book. This chapter also explains how practitioners can benefit from the use of empirically tested and validated profiles in their unsolved investigations and how evidence-based offender profiling can advance the quality, prestige, and utility of the field of offender profiling.
