Odd Jøran Sagegg, Erlend Alfnes · Auerbach Publications eBooks · 2020

This chapter aims to understand the basic data structure of a master planning module. It describes basic functions found in the master planning module. The master planning module is the key factor when it comes to driving the flow of items throughout the manufacturing supply chain. Master planning triggers replenishment for items in the warehouses to account for sales orders, issues to production, items in transfer between warehouses, and other events in the manufacturing supply chain. The key input used by the master planning module is the inventory transactions that are stored in the inventory management module. The master planning uses the bill-of-materials (BOMs) from production module to perform “BOM-explosions” for calculating the requirements for subcomponents, so that item in all levels of the production is accounted for in the plan. The master-planning run uses the inventory transactions that sometimes are combined with forecast, to find the items that are on hand, and future requirement in the warehouses.
