This paper introduces an implementation of the ECHONET Lite network communication protocol specifically tailored for use with micro-controllers, i.e. embedded devices that are unable to run general-purpose operating systems. This implementation was used as a part of a solution monitoring the quality of an office environment. We proceed to describe the basic structure and functionality provided by elite. Furthermore, we introduce the other parts of the office-monitoring solution, demonstrating the typical interactions and flow of information among parts in this ECHONET Lite-based solution. Finally, performance characteristics of the solution are discussed. Elite is released as open source software and as such it is expected to stimulate the ECHONET Lite community, by sharing technical know-how and providing a core platform on which other ECHONET Lite embedded devices can be created. Furthermore, the discussion regarding the office monitoring solution can serve as an example of what a system engineer can expect when interacting with ECHONET Lite.
